The Plantage is Oost at its most stately, home to Artis, the city zoo, the glasshouses of the Hortus Botanicus and quiet streets of grand townhouses. Further east, Oosterpark leads to the Dappermarkt, one of the liveliest street markets in town, and to De Gooyer, the tall windmill beside the Nieuwevaart with a brewery at its foot. Then comes the water. The eastern docklands, KNSM Island, Java Island, Borneo and Sporenburg, form an open-air gallery of modern housing, with steep red footbridges arching over the canals. Beyond them, IJburg has its own city beach, while Park Frankendael and the leafy Watergraafsmeer close off the district to the south.

Oost borders both Amsterdam Centrum and De Pijp, which makes it one of the easiest outcall areas beyond our home districts. For the Plantage, Oosterpark or the Wibautstraat, an hour's notice usually covers it comfortably, and a tram or taxi does the rest. The docklands islands and IJburg sit further along the water and take a little longer, especially when an event is on at the waterfront.
